Welcome to Tallahassee FCS, our home on the web for the Tallahassee branch of the FCS Kali system.
FCS was founded by Ray Dionaldo in order to protect and spread the Filipino martial arts. Until the founding of FCS, the separate families that controlled each different Filipino art were very secretive of their art and this led to a stagnation of growth for the art and brought the martial arts community to a standstill. However, with the creation of the unified FCS system, which united all the different Filipino combat styles under one banner, people of all different background, lineages and martial arts experience are able to learn and practice the powerful arts of Kali, Eskrima, Sikaran, and Arnis.
The FCS system is diverse and powerful using sticks, short swords, a variety of knives and sarongs as well as strikes and locks. The flexibility of the system comes largely from the uniformity of movement. A technique that can be used with the open hand, very easily extends to the stick or knife which greatly increases the movement vocabulary of the FCS practitioner. In addition, the FCS student learns as much about avoiding and escaping combat as they do about winning an engagement. As an martial artist will tell you, the objective is to keep yourself safe, and the best way to do this is to avoid conflict all together.
With the above in mind, know that although the roots of FCS Kali are buried deep with combat and conflict, our curriculum is not one of violence. We do not condone provoking or seeking out fights, and we will not teach students our arts so that they may use them maliciously. Kali is an art of preservation, self discovery, and cultivation of the body and it must only be used as such.
